The Fall Equinox is the time when Mabon is celebrated. A festival of the changing seasons, of balance and equality, Mabon is a time of second harvest and work shared. Day and night are the same length – a dynamic tension exists tht seems to stretch time into both a long day and a long night. Also called Harvest Home, this holiday is a ritual of thanksgiving for the fruits of the Earth and a recognition of the need to share them to secure the blessings of the Goddess and God during the winter months. Celebrated around the world, this festival borders summer and winter – the last day of the growing sun, the moment before the light will be overtaken by night. The energy of Mabon is similar to the electrically charged energy that occurs just before twilight, the energy of Between-Time. Mabon is a time of strong and clear psychic visions and dreams. Spirit is clear and contemplation comes easily. It is a time of powerful, mature insight and dynamic action rooted in past efforts. Combining psychic visions with grounded effort leads to some interesting paths and journeys. Fall equinox is a time of unlimited possibilities.

Artisan Accessories… Not all who wander are lost

Not all who wander are lost… Chic nomads travel into the vintage west unearthing lost arts…. From tribal woven bracelets to vintage Alpaca clutches and kissing donkeys you won’t want to miss the sage lifestyles new arrivals in artisan accessories!!!

My new additions have inspired me to create  these two trend stories – Wild Spirits and Native Nomads, which I am thrilled to share with you today. I hope you enjoy this insight into my passion for all the beautiful art and fashion which is born through each cultures rich with artisanal past.

Wild Spirits trend story celebrates artisanal crafts and handmade techniques. The spirited multi-cultural palette, primitive decoration and crude execution evoke the elaborate nature of the trend. Texture becomes one of the most important qualities, photographs of horses transferred onto vintage fabric, vintage alpaca hair, fine leather and artisanal accents like fringing and embroidery create a luxurious look and feel. Pieced and patched fabrics and raw reference crafts from Mexico and South America – Serape, Native American influences – Navajo and Chimayo textiles influence decoration and print. The key items in Wild Spirits are accent pillows, bags and clutches.

artisan accessoriesThere’s a regal sensibility in the Native Nomad theme. The trend mixes inspiration from different cultures and uses bright colors mixed with neutrals. Hand Crafted Rosaries made from cruelty free horse hair by artisans in Peru. Bracelets crafted by the Huichol Indian tribes of Mexico by skilled artists who learned and inherited craftsmanship from generations. The colors and symbols of the beadings represent the Huichol culture – many of the designs represent important symbols for the Huichol Indians, such as good luck, rain, sun, fire, fertility, wisdom, and knowledge. Native American influences include Native American Indian Turquoise Jewelry and Native tribe necklaces. Materials in Native Nomad include: Arizona turquoise, agate, flourite, garnet, rubies, beadwork.

Legend has it that the Native American Indians danced and rejoiced when the rains came. Their tears of joy mixed with the rain and seeped into Mother Earth to become SkyStone Turquoise.

Turquoise, the “fallen sky stone” hidden in Mother Earth, has been valued by cultures for its beauty and reputed spiritual and life-giving qualities for over 7000 years. It is a true gem of the centuries. A long time ago someone noticed a clear blue line running through gray rock, and saw the imagery of sky and water in stone, and from that time on, turquoise has been cherished above all else in creation – turquoise, stone of sky, stone of water, stone of blessings, good fortune, protection, good health and long life.

Fall 2014 Fragrance Guide – Fall Scents at The Sage Lifestyle

It’s a nice feeling, drifting into autumn… The nights are getting longer, darker and crisper. The thought of being blanketed in warm sweaters and drinking spirits with close friends as compensation. After a long hot summer I’m ready for the deeper, earthy, musky scents of the season – the woody scents that warm on your skin and linger through your day and beautiful fireside evenings.

As we move into Fall, there is a natural shift towards fragrances that evoke a sense of warmth and comfort. We see light summer floral scents giving way to darker, more intense use of rich rose and red berries, as well as a hint of spirit-inspired notes that give a seductive character to fragrances. As the season’s change, it’s time to think about reviving your fragrance wardrobe with a new signature scent.

The fragrance trend report for Fall-Winter 2014/15 offers an insight into the world of fine fragrance. The Sage Lifestyle approaches with a unique interpretation of these Fall trends in four distinct fragrance stories, presented to you in our Fall 2014 Fragrance Guide.

Fall 2014 Fragrance GuideReturn of the Rose: Offering a dark and dramatic interpretation of the rose, which appears for its third season, this rich, velvety fragrance, Garnet fragrance oil by Sage – a fragrance that is as deeply sensual as the smoldering red hue of the stone for which it was named, melds with and transforms the wearer’s body heat in an enigmatic alchemy. This tribute to the stone of love begins with a luscious and seductive watermelon top note. Garnet’s full, inviting middle note accord of gardenia and Moroccan red rose absolute languidly lies on a sumptuous bed for amber, vanilla and musk that both radiates and beckons. Garnet, coupled with intense notes of Amethyst in the Garnet and Amethyst blend by Sage – Our rendition of a bohemian jetsetter fuses sensual florals for pure fragrance perfection. Moroccan Red Rose and Blackberry blended with sweet Lilac, Gardenia and African violet.

Fall 2014 Fragrance Guide

Scents of Spirits: The smoky aromas of Onyx fragrance oil by Sage –  a fragrance that is as darkly opulent as the stone for which it was named, begins with a bewitching top note accord of black coconut, tobacco and oakmoss. Its rich and enveloping base note accord of vanilla, amber and sheer musk caresses the skin like sweet dew born of nocturnal, tropical air. A perfume of almost primeval intensity, Onyx evokes nature’s beauty in its darkest forms; a jungle’s depths, volcanic heat and velvety night skies. Luxe and exotic, Onyx and Peridot fragrance oil blend by Sage is for the perfumista who has it all. A fusion of Vanilla Nectar and Dark Coconut blended with crisp Lime, Fig and soft Musk add complexity and a sophisticated edge – a sheer bliss in a bottle.

 Fall 2014 Fragrance Guide

Concentrated Creations: An opulent take on earthy fragrances, the darker and spicier compositions feature fig and amber. Amber fragrance oil by Sage (Birthstone for October) – a fragrance of singular power and depth, is inspired by those golden, light-filled stones formed from the resin of ancient trees. Its succulent blood orange top note streams like the sun’s rays through notes of labdanum, Tunisian Amber and musk. Legend states that Amber was used by sorcerers and magicians to promote strength, healing and protection. This fragrance is itself an emboldening yet profoundly calming talisman. Peridot Revival fragrance oil by Sage is an exotic, sexy fig fragrance that starts with a classic, grassy fig note set like a jewel amongst notes of warmth and depth. The slightest hint of sparkling blood orange plays off the fruity qualities of the fig, and draws deeper into the richness of the base note accord on which this fragrance lives. Deep ambers mingle with variety of fresh musk notes to create a scent that wears close to the body, becoming part of you. A subtle touch of oak moss and essential vanilla anchor Peridot to the skin, and to the memory of the one who wears it.

Fall 2014 Fragrance Guide

Futuristic Folklore: An eclectic, warm, rich and spicy fragrance, inspired by a vibrant, multicultural world. Topaz fragrance oil by Sage (Birthstone for November). In Sanskrit, the word topaz means “fire”. Inspired by those vibrant, sunset-hued jewels that were a favorite of Russia’s Czarinas, this deeply warm and spicy fragrance begins with an incendiary, inviting top note accord of mango, papaya and rosewood. These ignite a sumptuous, alluring fusion of five vanillas from around the world with white opium, amber, Arabian sandalwood, oakmoss and smoky musk. A truly celebratory fragrance, Topaz adorns the wearer much like its namesake stone once graced noble beauties with dazzling, regal splendor. Amber and Carnelian fragrance oil blend by Sage – Chic and captivating you can’t help be enamored by rich musk with Tunisian Amber and a hint of Blood Orange blended with Tangerine, Mandarin and Papaya. An effortless scent that flourishes from day to night.

The image of the gypsy is associated with enchantment, mystery and allure. Nomads and gypsies are well-accustomed to having to travel from one place to another based on such needs as food or shelter, often travelling light with little to no baggage with them. The result is that they end up wearing multiple layers of clothing that will be able to suit them in a variety of different environmental circumstances. These layered looks, combined with a variety of eccentric jewelry pieces, creates a visually stunning overall appearance, one that is iconically associated with nomadic travellers and gypsies.
